 WHAT'S NEW:

  • On July 23, 2010, William S. Meyer, MSW, BCD of Duke University Medical Center was the recipient of the Day-Garrett Award from Smith College in Northampton, MA.The Day-Garrett Award, established in 1978, is presented annually to one person or more who have been outstanding contributors to professional social work and who have been significant members of the Smith College School for Social Work educational community.   • Kelly Spangler, MSW, LCSW, MPA of Horse Shoe, North Carolina was recently appointed to the Health Specialty Practice Section Committee by the NASW Board President. Kelly is serving on the Steering Committee for the Section. To lean more about this national appointment and its duration, please click here.
  • Anna Scheyett, PhD, MSW, LCSW of Chapel Hill was recently appointed to the NASW National Committee on Women's Issues. The Committee develops, reviews, and monitors programs of the Association that significantly affect women. Additional responsibilities include making recommendations on national and international issues affecting health, welfare, and the economic life of women.   • The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) are hosting a Train-the-Trainers Conference on the Cancer Survival Toolbox®, at the National Office of NASW in Washington, DC on Tuesday, November 16, 2010.  The Cancer Survival Toolbox (http://www.canceradvocacy.org/toolbox/) is an audio tool produced by and for cancer survivors, to help newly diagnosed individuals, as well as families and caregivers, develop skills to better understand and meet the challenges of their illness. All expenses related to the conference (travel, lodging and meals) are covered by NASW. Attendees will be required to train at least 20 professional peers in the 12 months following the conference. Applications are due September 20th .  CEs will be available for a nominal fee.  Application materials are available at http://www.socialworkers.org/practice/toolkittraining/ .
