Guidelines for Completion of the NASW-NC Continuing Education Endorsement Application

NASW-NC is pleased to join with you in the endorsement process designed to support quality continuing education for social workers in North Carolina.  Observing the items listed below will aid you in obtaining speedy endorsement of your continuing education activities.

•Be certain your objectives and the content fit the clock hours of your activity.  Identifying the clock times with the specific objectives (and content) is very helpful to the reviewers. Please note that total training time does not include break periods or lunch.  If the training occurs over a meal function, it shall count as 1/2

•If your presenter does not appear to have the appropriate graduate education and experience in the content area of your continuing education activity, the NASW reviewing committee may return the application for further documentation.

•If the activity for which approval is requested is for agency employees, (i.e., staff development) the application must be for appropriate educational experience rather than focusing on agency procedures.

•Supervisory sessions or activities, even if purchased outside the place of employment, will not be endorsed as continuing education credits.

•Instruction on how to supervise is an appropriate continuing education activity.  However, it will not be endorsed as part of an internal staff development activity.

•Add the daytime telephone number of the social worker who is listed as part of the planning for continuing education activity.  Questions from the reviewers will be addressed to this person.

Interested in serving on the Peer Review Board?

To be considered for the peer review board, one must hold a graduate degree in Social Work and have two years of post-LCSW clinical experience. Interested parties should email a letter of inquiry to hope@naswnc.org

The NC Social Work Certification and Licensure Board always has the final say as to whether the continuing education courses taken will be accepted in case of a CE audit. The new NASW-NC CE Endorsement  program identifies providers capable of delivering high-quality, appropriate continuing education, but it is ultimately the social worker's responsibility to see to it that actual CE gained fits within the board's definitions of acceptable continuing education.  Social Workers should empower themselves and familiarize themselves with the North Carolina Licensing and Certification board's continuing education rules. If you're considering a particular CE program and have a question about whether the NCSW board will accept it, contact the board for clarification before you take the course.
