Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, Equine-Assisted Learning and Equine-Assisted Activities Training for Professionals

Presenter: Stephanie L. Roffey, LCSW, EAP

Learning Objectives:
1.Discuss Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL), and Equine-Assisted Activities (EAA) concepts.
2. Differentiate between EAP, EAL, and "Therapeutic Riding".
3. Discuss the use of the horse as a metaphor for promoting positive growth and learning and, ultimately, change in clients.
4. Discuss the importance of non-verbal communication in EAP and EAL.
5. Describe the structure of the facilitating team & the application of EAP, EAL, and/or EAA by the facilitating team, including the roles of each member of the facilitating team.
6. Demonstrate how Shifts, Patterns, Unique behaviors, Discrepancies, and Self-awareness (SPUD’S) are used in EAP and EAL.
7. Correlate how clients recognize and move into or avoid danger in both the arena and in daily life.
8. Observe, understand, and hopefully want to utilize EAP, EAL, and EAA activities in their treatment programs.
