Alternatives to Violence Project Trainings

The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) is a training program enabling participants to deal with potentially violent situations in new & creative ways.
Location: The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1505 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, NC, 28301
An AVP workshop can help you to:

  • manage strong feelings such as anger and fear
  • deal more effectively with risk and danger
  • build good relationships with other people
  • communicate well in difficult situations
  • recognize the skills you already have and learn new ones
  • be true to yourself while respecting other people
  • understand why conflict happens

SAVE THE DATES:
AVAILABLE WORKSHOPS: All workshop times are Friday from 6-9 pm, Saturday from 9-8 pm, and Sunday from 1-5 pm. Meals are provided.

1. April 4-6, BASIC: Initial workshop focuses on community building, communication skills, conflict resolution. Required for Advanced workshops.
2. April 25-27, ADVANCED: Deepens the work of the Basic and builds on it with the
addition of consensus building and collaboration.
3. May 30-June 1, TRAINING FOR FACILITATORS: Want to lead workshops? This is the one for you. Requires completion of Basic and Advanced workshops.

Each workshop earns 18 contact hours for full participation.

Registration Fees:

  • Current Students - $50
  • NASW-NC Members and Quaker House members $65
  • Late Registration - $70 (March 16th – March 24th)


This is an experiential learning model that is valuable for Social Workers, Counselors, Psychologists,
Clergy, Court Counselors, Teachers, School counselors, Case Managers, Military Personnel,
Law Enforcement, Substance Abuse Professionals, Physicians, Nurses, Students and other members of the behavioral health and health care providers community.
