Target Audience
This program will be beneficial for mental health professionals including substance abuse counselors, social workers, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, school counselors and other professionals interested in this subject.

Description
This workshop will explore evidenced based trauma and substance abuse treatment and theory. It will increase the participant’s knowledge of when and how to address trauma in the substance abuse treatment environment and to provide a deeper understand of the interaction of substance abuse and trauma. This workshop will provide an opportunity for dialog from practitioners from both fields to discuss concerns and insights for addressing the unique issues that present for trauma survivors.

Objectives
•    Explain trauma as it relates to substance use;
•    Describe trauma focused treatment for substance abuse and evidenced based treatments for addressing trauma;
•    Examine components of treatment models and ways to assess substance abuse;
•    Demonstrate a greater knowledge for understanding the interaction between trauma and substance use;
•    Discuss areas of concerns for addressing trauma when substance abuse is present.

MAHEC is an NBCC-Approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.
