Workshop: "African-Americans Aging in the Rural South"

1. To engage in professional discussion about elders in rural communities.
2. To promote reminiscence among elders and practitioners.
3. To promote the significance of stories and storytelling among elders.
Dr. Iris Carlton-LaNey is a professor in the School of Social Work at UNC -Chapel Hill. She received her BS in Social Work from the NC Agricultural &Technical University in Greensboro, NC, her Masters in Social Work from the University Of Chicago School Of Social Service Administration and her doctorate from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Social Work. She has taught social work for over 26 years at three North Carolina Universities: NC A&T State University, UNC Charlotte, and now UNC Chapel Hill.
Dr. Carlton-LaNey was inducted into the Department of Social Work and Sociology Hall of Fame at NC A&T University in 1998 and received the Belle Ringer Image Award from Bennett College in 2001.
