During this workshop social workers will identify personal weaknesses that can hamper their effectiveness with target populations. Attitudes, boundary setting, stress management, handling conflict, learning from mistakes, ridding themselves of toxic people in their lives, the importance of forgiveness, and why we fight against change will be discussed. Each participant will be doing basic physical fitness assessment, and will learn and practice basic exercises for physical fitness improvement. They will also learn the difference between being religious and being spiritual. We will discuss how spiritual practices can help with stress management, personal growth, understanding others, healing past hurts, and accomplishing personal and professional goals. When we as social workers can learn to be stronger people in our personal lives mentally, physically and spiritually, we will live more authentically, have less stress in our lives and therefore be able to work with our target populations more effectively. Participants will also take home a tool that they can use as it is or recreate it for their particular target group to identify needs for improvement and measure progress.
