Workshop: Self-Care and Parallel Processing Using Cutting Edge, Evidence-Based Yoga Techniques

CE: 3.0 Hours

Through part didactic presentations and experience, Social Workers will:

1.       Come to understand and be able to easily language how the classical definition of yoga firmly situates the tradition as an accessible, effective and appropriate modality for mental and behavioral health practitioners to apply in practice.

2.       Explore how the anatomy of emotion leads to 4 of the most highly diagnosed and prescribed conditions:  low back pain, upper back and neck pain, anxiety and depression.

3.       Learn to practice and teach two simple yet profound chair-based yoga and breath sequences which encourage neuromuscular reprogramming to address the 4 conditions.

4.      Learn how to 'integrate the practice' with elements from a client's spiritual tradition and how that catalyzes trust, relaxation, community and healing for both therapist and client.

Samantha is a lifelong student of science, world history, mythology, religion and culture.  Her instruction is laced with science, physiological facts, archetypal imagery and cosmic insight. Hence, her clients will gain a more thorough understanding of how yoga works and open to a deeper connection between themselves and this vast universe we live in.  Samantha’s objective is to marry ancient and modern science to help her clients more easily realize their goals.
