Eye on Ethics: Whistleblowing in the Social Work Profession
* To become more knowledgeable about recent literature related to whistleblowing in organizations
* To be able to identify factors to consider before whistleblowing
* To be able to apply three theories of normative ethics to ethical situations that may warrant whistleblowing
* To increase knowledge regarding state statutes, best practices, reporting procedures and protection policies
* To identify resources for consultation when facing ethical dilemmas

Amy Peters, a Certified Master Level Social Worker in the state of North Carolina, earned her MSW in 1995 at Fordham University and her BSW in 1994 at Marist College. She currently serves as the Admissions Director for the Department of Social Work and lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She previously served as the Assistant Field Director and faculty liaison for the North Carolina Child Welfare Education Collaborative at the same institution. Ms. Peters has completed presentations on national, state and local levels, in addition to having been an instructor at two community colleges. Prior to working in academia, her social work practice experience focused on advocacy, education, and crisis intervention, serving victims of intimate partner violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and natural disasters. Ms. Peters' board experience includes having served a three year term, ending in 2012, on the Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools Board and a two year term on the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Term, which ends in June 2016. Ms. Peters is a member of multiple professional organizations including the National Association of Social Workers, the Council on Social Work Education, and the Association of Baccalaureate.
