Lunch and Learn Objectives:
1) Obtain knowledge of current gender terminology.
2) Understand ethically informed services for transgender clients.
3) Become aware of issues your transgender clients may be having.
This presentation focuses on working with transgender/gender non-conforming adults. I first presented a similar workshop for the NASW entitled “Wrong Bathroom?” in 2014. This is even more relevant in the age of HB2 and all of the “bathroom bills.” So leave behind the stigma and stress of being seen as a "gatekeeper" and become a supportive ally to your transgender clients. This lunch and learn will give you a general overview of (ever-changing) gender terminology and the binary gender paradigm. You will learn to conceptualize how transgender individuals may struggle with various issues like daily interactions, relationships and societal systems that cisgender people may not think about.
