The Department of Health and Human Services has announced a listening session tour to discuss potential changes to behavioral health in North Carolina. Under the Department’s plan, the Behavioral Health Strategic Plan, the current LME/MCOs system will dissolve once the state sets up new plans under the Medicaid Reform system. The Medicaid Reform plan is currently awaiting approved by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. The reason behind this move is to integrate behavioral health care with physical healthcare.

NASW-NC has remained involved with state’s efforts to reform Medicaid and currently participates in a stakeholder group that has been discussing the Behavioral Health Strategic Plan. View our public comments here.

Attending these listening sessions will be beneficial to providers and consumers of the current LME/MCO system. Providers can seek to gain more insight into the proposed plan and how they might be a part of the Strategic Plan moving forward. Providers may also submit written comments via email or over the phone (details in the link below).
