Organizational Mission

The National Association of Social Workers North Carolina (NASW-NC) is a membership organization with a dual mission to: 1) Promote, develop and protect the practice of social workers; and 2) seek to enhance the effective functioning and well-being of individuals, families and communities through its work and advocacy. Our mission is to be experts and leaders in creating and sustaining systemic change through ethical social work practice.

NASW-NC is committed to providing professional support, ethical and legal consultation, career guidance, continuing education and networking opportunities, and being the voice of the profession through our advocacy efforts to over 4,500 members in North Carolina.

Placement Information

NASW-NC is committed to providing a valuable learning experience for each intern placed with the association. This placement provides interns opportunities to be exposed to all aspects of social work administration in a small state office of a larger nation-wide organization.

Interns are critical members of the NASW-NC team and must be willing to commit to being focused on their internship activities during the hours they are in field placement. This is a relaxed and fun, but fast-paced environment where interns need strong critical thinking skills and administrative aptitude. Occasional weekend work would be required. Interns are expected to internalize the ethics and values of the social work professional and to practice those ethics and values in their interactions with all NASW members and with each individual and organization with whom they interact.

NASW-NC will be introducing legislation in 2019. This will be a very exciting time for the association and the profession in North Carolina.
