Goverment Relations- Past Legislation

PastLegislation

NASW-NC continues to stand up for social workers in North Carolina. Below are issues we have worked on in the past few years and resources we provided to members along the way!
  • Raise the Age: NC is the last of the states to prosecute 16 and 17-year-olds as adults in minor crimes. This has a significant impact on their future. Legislators finally changed this practice in 2017- a huge victory for our state! Raise the Age will be implemented in 2019 for youthful offenders of nonviolent felonies and misdemeanors. NASW-NC position statement on Raise the Age.

  • Marriage Amendment: NASW-NC was OPPOSED to the marriage amendment that was voted on May 8th, 2012. Click here for NASW-NC's position statement. A student intern created voter guides to help social workers at the polls:

Other Issues not related to North Carolina legislation:

  • What should you do about Medicaid Fraud? In collaboration with other behavioral health professionals, we have developed a document to help you recognize fraud and report it. For more information, click here.
