Committee Charge
The NASW-NC Ethics Committee is a nationally mandated NASW committee charged with carrying out the process of review for any ethical complaints that are filed against a NASW member who resides in North Carolina. The Committee also focuses on establishing ethics resources for social workers and promoting ethics education. Currently the ethics committee meets by conference call roughly 6 times a year.

Past Activities
- The Committee has surveyed social workers about their ethical issues and concerns. Click here to view survey results.
- Committee members have attended meetings of the NC Social work Certification and Licensure Board and held discussions with the Board Ethics Coordinator Richard Ferriss in order to understand the licensing Board process and access NASW-NC’s role.
- Committee Chair Ravita Omabu Okafar has reviewed all NCSWC&L Board consent orders and public documents related to ethical complaints in order to begin looking for trends in ethical violations and complaints.
Current and Upcoming Activities
- Development of an informational guide that will help social workers who have had an ethical complaint filed against them.
- Development of a guide that will provide social workers with information about the most common ethical complaints and how a social worker might best avoid a complaint.
