Welcome Social Work Students!Social work students are the lifeblood of our profession as they are the next generation of social work practitioners. Students are a vital part of NASW membership; and, NASW-NC has several opportunities of involvement for students, including formal roles for students on our Board of Directors and NC-PACE. NASW-NC has roughly 260 BSW student members, 330 MSW student members, and 8 Doctoral student members. Student MembershipStudents pay a lower membership fee to join NASW yet receive all of the same benefits as full members. Once joining, membership lasts for 12 full months and students will receive: • Chapter and National newsletters If joining as a student, membership dues will continue to be lower than full membership dues for 2-3 years after graduation. This is considered the "transitional" phase of membership where dues slowly increase each year and is both in appreciation for having joined as a student and in recognition that salaries are often lower when one is starting out in the profession. Student Opportunities with the NASW-NC Board of DirectorsYou can serve on the NASW-NC Board of Directors as either a BSW or MSW Student Representative! Our student NASW-NC Board members are an integral part of our Board of Directors. NASW-NC by-laws require both BSW and MSW Student Representative seats on our Board of Directors. These positions are one year terms that run from July 1 to June 30 each year, and students running for election must be NASW members. Students on the Board insure that student interests remain visible, and student Board members are asked to reach out to social work students throughout the state. If you are interested in running for the NASW-NC Board of Directors contact Kathy Boyd at the Chapter office at naswncdirector@naswnc.org or 800-280-6207. Internship Opportunities at NASW-NCInternships or field placements are available at the NASW-NC Chapter office. There are currently 2 staff members at the Chapter office available to supervise students doing internships in the office, they are: Kathy Boyd, Executive Director and Jack Register, Director of Advocacy & Legislation. Placements within NASW-NC are non-paid and are macro level placements. Click here for more information about being an intern with NASW-NC. We encourage ANY interested student to apply as we value interns in our office and appreciate the work that they do. Student assistance helps us to advance our social work profession in North Carolina. Volunteer Opportunities with NASW-NCVolunteer at an NASW-NC ConferenceStudent members are always needed to volunteer at NASW-NC conferences and in exchange are allowed to attend the conference at half price.
