What is Social Work Advocacy Day?
Advocacy Day is a chance for social workers, students and professors to advocate for the social work profession at the North Carolina General Assembly. You will learn the skills you need to educate state leaders about policy issues that are important to your profession and to your specific clients in our Advocacy 101 training. You will then put these skills to use by meeting with your local legislators in individual meetings that YOU set up! Advocacy Day gives you the opportunity to tour the General Assembly, attend legislative meetings and interact with social workers from across the state.
This year our advocacy sessions will be held at the
North Carolina Museum of History
5 East Edenton Street, Raleigh, NC
Participants are then invited to walk across the street to the
North Carolina General Assembly for your scheduled meetings with legislators and attend committee meetings.
Each participant will register for ONE session:
Session 1 begins at 8:30 am
Session 2 begins at 10:30 am (SESSION FULL)
Each session will include:
- Advocacy 101 for Social Workers: Kay Castillo, NASW-NC Director of Advocacy, Policy, and Legislation
- Representative Graig Meyer, MSW, NC House District 50 and other invited North Carolina Legislators
Participants are required to set up individual meetings with their legislators as these meetings make the day a success.
This event is FREE and open to all. We have limited space for this event and want as many people to attend as possible. Please only register if you are certain if you can attend.
An OPTIONAL contribution is available during the online registration process.
