Title: Ethics in Action - The Social Worker's Role in Promoting Awareness of Toxic Stress, Trauma, ACEs and Resilience (2 Hours of Ethics)

Overview:

We will explore the biology of stress and the science of hope using the documentary film, Resilience.  We will describe and discuss how social workers can demonstrate their commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics by keeping current with emerging knowledge about trauma and healing and by using research evidence in their practice and by promoting policies and practices that confirm equity and social justice for all people. We will offer practical skills to aid social workers in self-care and self-regulation as they confront the intersection of trauma, racism, privilege and health disparities in their work.

Objectives will include:

1. Explore the impact of trauma and toxic stress on the body

2. Apply the NASW Code of Ethics to reflect on the role of social workers in promoting culturally competent, resilience-building and trauma-informed communities and organizations

3. Practice ways to reduce the impact of trauma and promote healing using strategies from the Community Resiliency Model (CRM)
