Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn how trauma affects the brain and body.
  2. Review the history of EMDR to include how it was discovered and tested to be an evidence based form of treatment.
  3. Discuss the 8 phases of EMDR, learn how it works and explore implications for Social Work practice.

Presenter Information:

Lisa Kelley is the Owner and Clinical Director of Carolina Counseling and Consulting Services, pile where she leads a team of four therapists who serve families in the area of mental health. She also works with small businesses in human resources consulting and is a speaker at local events to promote mental health awareness. In her former 20- year career, Lisa enjoyed success in sales and marketing. She returned to graduate school and completed her master's degree in licensed professional counseling. Lisa traveled to Uganda to serve women and girls impacted by the war. In 2015, she completed EMDR training and uses it regularly in her practice. Using EMDR has helped some clients experience life changing physical and emotional release from past trauma.

A passionate student who continues to challenge herself in her fifties, Lisa is pursuing her doctorate degree in mental health supervision and education in hopes of teaching and supervising the next generation of counselors.
