Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the overall epidemiology, demographics, and social impact of opioid use disorder.
  2. Recognize misuse and abuse of opioids.
  3. Discuss evidence based practices to treat people with opioid use disorder and explore implications for //social Work practice.

Presenter Information:

Alanna is a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, Registered Yoga Instructor and Certified HeartMath Trainer. Alanna has over 17 years of experience working in the addictions field. She spent 12 years working for Carolinas Healthcare in their medical detoxification program, and then transitioned to the Intensive Outpatient program. Alanna takes a holistic approach when working with clients combining the mind, body and spirit in counseling. She specializes in working with addiction and trauma. Lastly, Alanna provides clinical supervision for those seeking their certification in substance abuse counseling.


Alanna has appeared in various print media outlets including America Now, HealthWise, Behavioral Healthcare, and Charlotte Woman. Her radio appearances include interviews on medications for alcoholism and prescription drug abuse with Radio 4 the Ages.
