Topics to be covered include confidentiality issues and health information exchanges in the new integrated care world, pros and cons of electronic medical records systems, the evolving ethical and clinical issues associated with digital communication and social media, staying HIPAA compliant and avoiding complaints/fines (yes, that is now happening) as well as the new HIPAA rules, outcome measures, and other ethical/legal issues in professional practice. In addition the speakers will do a quick review of Medicare Opt-out, will discuss provider monitoring and avoiding audits, supervision requirements, issues with distance practice and telehealth, and professional wills. All of this information is a must for anyone in professional practice.

By the end of this Workshop, participants will be able to:
1. know the steps needed to assure compliance with all HIPAA regulations, including new rules and new auditing by HHS;
2. know how to do a regular yearly risk assessment of your practice for HIPAA compliance avoiding breaches; 
3. know the ethical issues and considerations in use of digital communications; 
4. know the issues in doing outcomes measures; 
5. know how to keep clients’ records that meet legal and auditing requirements; 
6. know the consequences of social media activities and the ethical implications; and
7. know a variety of legal/ethical issues for consideration in professional practice.
