Topic: The Grief of Aging: Understanding Loss Across the Later Life Journey

This presentation will explore the multifaceted nature of grief in older adults, highlighting the often-overlooked emotional experiences that accompany aging. Participants will gain insight into the cumulative losses elders face, including loss of health and physical functioning, independence, roles and identity, loved ones, social connections, and future expectations. The session will also examine how grief can manifest in this population and the importance of recognizing both expressed and unspoken loss. Strategies for supporting older adults through these transitions will be discussed, along with the value of creating space for validation, connection, and meaning-making. This presentation is grounded in real-world practice and informed by the development of a grief support group within a PACE setting.

Presenter: LeAndrea Riggins-Jones

Cost:

Students: FREE
NASW Members: FREE

Non-members: $15

Once you pay, your money cannot be refunded and it will be your responsibility to find someone to take your spot if you can no longer attend.

CE: 1 hour.

Proof of attendance for CE will be distributed via email within one week after the event.

Topic: Responding with Confidence: Assessing and Addressing Suicidality in Adolescents

Suicidality in children and adolescents can leave even experienced clinicians questioning what steps to take next. This training provides a practical, developmentally informed approach to assessing and responding to suicide risk in youth, while also addressing considerations for young adults. Participants will learn how to conduct effective risk assessments, distinguish suicidal ideation from self-harm, engage caregivers in meaningful ways, create collaborative safety plans, and determine when a higher level of care is warranted. Through case examples and discussion of real-world clinical dilemmas, attendees will leave with greater confidence in managing suicide risk, documenting clinical decision-making, and supporting clients and families during times of crisis.

Presenter: Rylee Matechak, MSW, LCSWA

Cost:

Students: FREE

NASW Members: FREE

Non-members: $15

Once you pay, your money cannot be refunded and it will be your responsibility to find someone to take your spot if you can no longer attend.
