Dear NASW-NC Members,

We are writing today as Chairs of the National Association of Social Workers North Carolina Chapter (NASW-NC) Legislative and Political Action for Candidate Endorsement Committees.

As the state of our world changes, it is vital for social workers to have a voice at the table. NASW-NC invites you to the table by asking you to join our advocacy related committees! The work of these two committees directly advances the social work profession and the lives of our clients.

The social work profession was founded in social change. Throughout the profession’s history, social workers have sought to ensure that all people have equal access to the resources and opportunities that allow them to meet their basic needs. NASW upholds this challenge by advocating for the association to members of the North Carolina Legislature and regulatory agencies that so often hold the authority to influence policy. Please consider joining one of our advocacy committees that helps to guide this important work.

Legislative Committee

NASW-NC’s Legislative Committee has the unique opportunity to work with NASW-NC staff and volunteers to guide the association’s legislative agenda, collaborate with lawmakers to improve the profession, and take positions on different bills introduced during the North Carolina legislative session.

Committee members are social workers from across the state with a wide variety of experience and many have never been involved with policy efforts until they joined this committee. During the legislative session, the committee meets in person once a month. This group communicates mostly via google group and an occasional conference call.

More information about the Legislative Committee can be found here:

Political Action for Candidate Endorsement Committee (NC PACE)

Committee members are social workers with an interest in voting. Members review candidates running for statewide office that would support the social work profession while in office. These candidates may include the Governor, state legislators in the House and Senate, Secretary of State, and others. Candidates selected are then endorsed by this NASW-NC Committee. Staff and committee members work to provide NASW-NC members as volunteers for campaign efforts and get out the vote efforts.

This group communicates mostly via google group and meets in person during election season as needed. Commitment to this committee is during General Election time as the committee does not make endorsements in the primary elections.

More information about NC PACE can be found here:

Please consider joining one or both committees today! Contact Kay Castillo, Director of Advocacy, Policy and Legislation for more information:
