We are proud of the work we have accomplished in 2024 to support our members and be the strong voice of the social work profession. Click here to view the 2024 NASW-NC Impact Report, highlighting the work of the Chapter and our members. As we close out 2024, it is important to acknowledge what an incredibly challenging year it was in North Carolina. 2025 is going to be harder as a result of the 2024 general election, and we need social workers to continue the fight with us.
Social work IS a political profession. Throughout our profession’s history, social workers have provided direct practice, community organizing, advocacy, social and political action, policy development and implementation, education, and research and evaluation, even when elected officials created barriers or opposed our priorities. The work of advancing policies that protect civil rights and support economic and social well-being will continue. For nearly 70 years, NASW has shaped social work by setting ethical standards, championing social justice, and advocating for equity in mental health, child welfare, and healthcare. Its commitment to education has empowered social workers to adapt and serve effectively, regardless of political shifts - and this important work will continue. Our work for the social work profession is not possible without a robust and engaged NASW membership. We hope you feel both pride for our strong profession in North Carolina and inspired for what else we can and will accomplish together. We hope you will continue this journey with us. We are stronger together and the impact you have is immeasurable. If you are not a member of NASW, please join us so we can support and advocate for you throughout your entire social work career. Thank you for your NASW membership, your voice, and your support. We are here for you in 2025! With deep gratitude, Valerie Arendt, MSW, MPP Executive Director National Association of Social Workers North Carolina varendt.naswnc@socialworkers.org
