The NASW-NC Social Worker of the Year Award is an annual award given to a social work professional who has demonstrated commendable social work practice and involvement with NASW and other professional, civic, and community organizations. The NASW-NC Myrna Miller Wellons Advocacy Award is an annual award given to someone who has demonstrated a strong passion to advocate for the needs of the social work profession and/or policy issues. This nominee has been a champion in impacting policy both for the social work profession and the clients served by social workers.
The NASW-NC Kathy Boyd Conference Scholarship Award is designed for social workers who are beginning their professional career and have graduated with their social work degree within the past 3 years. Two award winners will be selected for each of NASW’s annual conferences, and the award covers the cost of the conference registration. Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social WorkStudent AwardsEligible students are limited to one NASW-NC award per year. The NASW-NC Presidents' Award provides an annual award of $1,000 to an MSW student member of NASW-NC from a CSWE accredited social work program in North Carolina. This is an award that honors past NASW-NC presidents and is awarded to MSW students who demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and potential. The award will be presented in March at the annual NASW-NC Ethics Conference and Recognition & Awards Luncheon held in Raleigh. The purpose of the NASW-NC Toby Brown Award is to recognize Toby Brown's commitment to BSW education and BSW students through the development of a scholarship award. This scholarship fund was established in memory of and to honor Dr. James S. Toby Brown who died on May 4, 1995. He was an Assistant Professor of Social Work at North Carolina State University and was a much-recognized educator and practitioner. The NASW-NC Equity and Inclusion Student Award provides an annual monetary award and NASW membership to Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students enrolled in a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program in North Carolina. This is an award that supports the inclusion of a diverse chapter membership and is open to current and not yet members of NASW North Carolina. The NASW-NC Kelly Spangler Student Award provides an annual monetary award and NASW membership to Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) students enrolled in a Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited social work program in North Carolina. This is an award that supports social work students in North Carolina who intend to pursue a career in public health, health care and/or integrated health care social work.
