About the Award

The Conference Scholarship award was envisioned by former NASW-NC staff and board member, Myrna Miller Wellons. She felt strongly that new social work graduates who were starting their professional careers deserved financial support in order to attend continuing education events.

Executive Director of NASW-NC from 1986-2018, Kathy Boyd, ACSW, CMSW kept this scholarship award fund available and has provided free NASW-NC Conference registration for recently graduated NASW-NC members. As of March 28, 2018, the NASW-NC Conference Scholarship has been renamed the NASW-NC Kathy Boyd Conference Scholarship.

New career professionals may have school debt, be working at entry level salaries, and if they are attempting to obtain licensure, have all the fees and continuing education expenses that come with the licensure process.  The conference scholarship award will cover the registration fee for one NASW-NC conference.

Eligibility

Applicants who wish to apply for the conference scholarship award MUST:

1. Be a current NASW-NC member
2. Have a BSW or MSW degree from a CSWE accredited social work program
3. Have graduated from the CSWE accredited social work program within the past 3 years.  Current students are NOT eligible as this award is for new career social workers only.
4. You must NOT already be registered for the conference in which you are applying for a scholarship. If you have already registered and paid, we unfortunately cannot accept your application.

Selection and Recognition

Up to two awards will be provided for each of NASW-NC’s annual conferences.  The selection of award winners is competitive, applying in no way guarantees selection.
Award winners will be notified by email with next steps prior to the conference that they have applied for.
