Legislation has been introduced or passed all across the country targeting the LGBTQ+ community, especially trans/non-binary/gender-expansive folks. Unfortunately, North Carolina has quickly become more unsafe for LGBTQ+ community members.
What can we do as social workers?
Join NASW-NC's Equity and Inclusion Committee for a panel discussion on these bills' impact on North Carolinians and actions we can take to support our LGBTQ+ clients. 1.5 hours of CE will be offered for this event! Panelists: Katharine Campbell, PhD, LCSW Katharine Campbell, PhD, LCSW is owner of Inward Bound, providing counseling & consulting services with 20+ years of experience. Dr. Campbell offers a unique approach to services based on her interdisciplinary PhD in Public Affairs with a Social Work emphasis which bridges Health, Public Administration, Criminal Justice and Social Work. Dr. Campbell's therapy services specialize in working with the LGB community, transgender services, and chronic and/or acute medical conditions. Additionally, she serves as a consultant for nonprofits. Dr. Campbell serves on the NASW NC Diversity & Inclusion Committee and is a member of the Charlotte Transgender Health Group and WPATH. TJ Stiers, MSW, LCSW TJ Stiers is a bilingual, transgender man, LCSW who has a private practice in Asheville. He obtained his Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education/Special Education from Butler University and his Masters of Social Work from Washington University. TJ has provided mental health services in a variety of settings including community mental health, residential facilities, health department, and outpatient services. He specializes in working with severely traumatized adults and adolescents as well as the Latinx and the LGBTQ+ community. In his spare time, he likes to swim, watch baseball, read, and play with his three spoiled cats. Lauren Zingraff, MSW Lauren (she/her) received a BA in Communications from North Carolina State University and obtained her Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She has been a member of NASW since 2007. She has also been an active member of the NASW-NC Equity & Inclusion Committee. Before joining NASW-NC, she has advocated on behalf of youth aging out of the foster care system, individuals living with chronic illness, and long-term care residents and their families. Lauren was the recipient of the 2015 NASW-NC Myrna Miller Advocate of the Year Award for her advocacy as Executive Director of SaySo where she advocated for older foster youth in substitute care. She also served as the Executive Director of Friends of Residents in Long Term Care advocating for the entire continuum of long-term care including nursing home and assisted living residents throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As NASW-NC’s Director of Advocacy and Policy, Lauren is committed to advancing the mission of the association while advocating for social workers and social justice.
