With the deadline looming for providers to connect to the state's Health Information Exchange Authority (HIEA), providers are still making a decision about what to do. House Bill 70 which will delay connection for one year and provide exemptions for certain providers is still held up in the Senate despite the House passing the legislation 110-0 in late March.
Since House Bill 70 has not been made law, the current deadline for providers to connect is June 1, 2019.
Options for connecting: You can sign the Participation Agreement with the NC HIEA. Signing this will automatically grant you a one year extension while you decide how best to connect. The Agreement does have a termination clause and you do not have to have an electronic health record when signing the agreement. *Note: this is not legal advice just one option available!
BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina has said they will deny claims for providers not in compliance. See their latest Provider Communication bulletin sent out on Wednesday, March 15th!
