North Carolina legislators have not hosted many committee meetings in the past few weeks as redistricting efforts are underway and as top legislative leaders work with Governor Roy Cooper to negotiate a state budget. House and Senate leadership agreed on a budget and took that to Governor Cooper to negotiate two weeks ago. Governor Cooper has offered a counter budget, but no other updates have been provided including details of the budget being negotiated on. Legislators are hopeful that a budget will come forward soon as legislators and Governor Cooper were able to negotiate on a major energy bill that passed the legislature last week.
