Blue Cross NC insourcing behavioral health services from Beacon Health Options

Final reminder: Blue Cross NC insourcing behavioral health services from Beacon Health Options 

 

As a reminder: Starting January 1, 2022, the following changes will take place:

  • Blue Cross NC will assume care for all behavioral health intensive case management (complex case management) and utilization management responsibilities from Beacon Health Options.
    • To clarify: Beacon Health Options will manage authorizations for services rendered through the end of 2021. Blue Cross NC will handle any services that will be rendered in January 2022 and beyond.
  • Providers will need to work with Blue Cross NC instead of Beacon Health Options to request authorization for services on PPA.
    • New options will be available to providers to submit a Prior Plan Authorization (PPA) for SHP members: You can call the telephone number that is on the back of the membership card 800-367-6143 to reach an intake specialist directly; complete a fax form and fax it to 866-987-4161; or utilize the Blue e authorization portal.
    • The provider community can speak to a behavioral health case manager by calling 833-298-1069.
