NASW-NC is sharing upcoming events and news related to advocacy and policy.

NASW-NC News and Events

  • NASW-NC’s Student Webinar Series is kicking off in September! Join us on Thursday, September 22 at 6pm to discuss How to Approach Your Internship to Prepare for your Career. Register here.

  • Final reminder: Join NASW-NC and Vot-ER on Wednesday, August 31 from 6 – 7 pm. This webinar will explore the evidence supporting civic engagement as a social determinant of health; prepare social workers for the critical role they play in improving the health outcomes of patients and clients through civic engagement; and provide tools that can be easily integrated into all practice settings to empower your clients to vote. Registration is open on our website.

  • On August 5, the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) released a long-awaited report on the demographic pass rates for social workers who have taken the ASWB licensure exams. Because ASWB was not initially willing to disseminate this information, the release of this report is the result of a long process of advocacy by social work organizations including the National Association of Social Workers, the National Association of Deans and Directors, schools of social work, and advocates. Click here to read NASW-NC’s response and RSVP to our listening session on Wednesday, September 7 at 7:00 pm!

  • Check out this video from NASW: What, and how, does NASW advocate at the federal level? (1 hour, 26-minute video)

  • NASW Student Webinar Series: NASW invites all social work students and recent graduates to our student-focused series to enhance your skills and connect you with colleagues from across the country. NASW members and non-members are all welcome to attend. Registration is free and the first one starts Thursday, September 15! More information here.

  • NASW has been at the table advocating for loan forgiveness and the news from President Biden this week further enhances the advocacy work NASW has been doing. See President Biden’s announcement on broad-based federal student loan cancellation. These changes are above and beyond, the Public Student Loan Forgiveness waiver and changes to the PSLF program, moving forward. Social workers will benefit from both cancellation and PSLF.
