Telehealth Reminders from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina

In September, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) announced updates to its Telehealth Policy effective January 1, 2023, that significantly expands our list of covered telehealth services compared to services offered before the pandemic. 

 

Beginning January 1, the new policy will continue to cover services that make up more than 97 percent of the telehealth claims received during the last two years, particularly behavioral health, primary care, and outpatient office visits. 

 

Please note that the current Telehealth Policy, through December 31, 2022, and the new policy, beginning January 1, 2023, applies to approved telehealth services regardless of the software or platform the local provider is using to render the services via telehealth. 

 

For details regarding telehealth vendor coverage, Blue Cross NC members can refer to their member benefit booklet or contact customer service for eligibility information. 

  

This policy does not apply to Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Federal plan. If you have patients on the Federal plan, please refer to the benefits policy and confirm any requirements needed to provide telehealth on the Federal Employee Program.
