NASW-NC Board member Dr. Natasha Scott, EdD, MSW co-authored an invited commentary in the North Carolina Medical Journal about the importance of Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) in addressing the youth mental health crisis. School Social Workers are a part of the SISP team:

North Carolina is facing a youth mental health crisis and there is an urgent need for alternative solutions. School-based models of delivering mental health services are associated with higher utilization and higher satisfaction compared to community-based services. Specialized Instructional Support Personnel can identify and address unmet needs and reduce barriers in access to care.

The commentary acknowledges NASW-NC member Pachovia Lovett, MSW, school social work consultant from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
