Today NASW-NC recognizes Military Spouse Appreciation Day and the nearly one million military spouses across the country.

One way to honor Military spouses in North Carolina is to move and pass Senate Bill 718 Social Work Interstate Licensure Compact sponsored by Senators Krawiec, Burgin and Corbin.

If you are or know a Military spouse in North Carolina who is a LCSW, PLEASE contact your North Carolina state Senator and ask them to help move SB718 which is sitting in the Senate Rules committee.

Here are talking points to use:

WHO: U.S. Department of Defense, as part of an initiative to promote licensure portability for military spouses, initiated the development of an interstate licensure compact for social workers.

WHAT: The Social Work Licensure Compact will enable regulated social workers to serve clients in every state that joins the compact, rather than going through the licensure process in every state.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? This will reduce the barriers to license portability, especially for military spouses who have to obtain a new license in every state when they are stationed in North Carolina.

COST IN NORTH CAROLINA STATE BUDGET: ZERO!

This is a great bill to support the hundreds of military spouses who are Licensed Clinical Social Workers in North Carolina and will reduce the barrier for them to work when there is a Military PCS move to North Carolina!

To join the compact, a state must enact the model compact legislation (legislation CANNOT be changed!) and meet eligibility criteria.

13 states have enacted the Social Work Licensure Compact! Missouri, South Dakota, Washington, Utah, Kentucky, Virginia, Kansas, Nebraska, Vermont, Iowa, Maine, Georgia and Alabama have enacted the Compact legislation and the Commission can begin!

As one of  the LARGEST MILITARY STATES IN THE U.S., North Carolina NEEDS to be a founding commission member which starts this fall!

Please help us pass SB 718 to support Military spouses in North Carolina!

Thank you for your support.
