Equity and Inclusion Student Award Application

Thank you for applying for the NASW-NC Equity and Inclusion Student Award!

 

Applicants must identify as a student of color enrolled in a CSWE-accredited Bachelor of Social Work or Master of Social Work program in the state of North Carolina.

 

Eligible students are limited to one NASW-NC award per year.


Applications are due by February 15 at 11:59pm.

 

***Applications MUST consist of and will be scored on these FIVE items:

  1. Completion of the below form.
  2. A biographical essay of 3 pages or less, double spaced, with 1” margins and a minimum of 12-point type, PDF that includes the following:
    • illustrate a desire to further Equity & Inclusion in your current or future social work practice
    • address your leadership, volunteerism, and/or lived experiences relevant to promoting social work ethics and values
    • communicate your financial need
    • demonstrate strong written communication skills
  3. One professional letter of recommendation (SIGNED by the author) and on official letterhead from faculty member, advisor, employer or someone familiar with your commitment to social work, PDF.
  4. Copy of transcript (official or unofficial) showing current GPA, PDF.
  5. Current resume, PDF.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IMPORTANT INFO:

  • If you copy and paste any information from outside sources in your essay or other application materials, please cite all sources you use. Plagiarism will not be accepted and any instances of plagiarism will result in an immediate disqualification of the application.
  • The scholarship committee encourages all applicants to have their essay reviewed prior to submitting the application. Essays will be scored on writing quality and clarity. Utilize the writing resource center at your university and/or https://owl.purdue.edu/
  • Documents must be uploaded as PDFs.
  • You can upload your application as one PDF (all of your documents in one PDF file) or as individual PDFs (each attachment as a separate PDF file). Please make sure your name is in the title of each PDF document that you upload.
  • Applicant must be currently enrolled in a CSWE-accredited Bachelor of Social Work (with declared SW major) or Master of Social Work Program in North Carolina within the current academic year.
  • Only one copy of your transcript is required. Unofficial is acceptable.
  • Please make sure that you include all requested information - incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Applicants CANNOT be Student Representatives on the NASW-NC Board of Directors.
  • Please note: this is a cash award and is considered taxable income.
