Presented by: Laura Wenzel
Governments and industry have often resolved difficult decisions on where to site polluting
activities such as hazardous waste dumps and heavily-trafficked roads by putting them in or
near communities of color and low-income communities, whose members may be less able to
mount an effective opposition. These communities, generally called “Environmental Justice”
communities, also experience the adverse effects of climate change first and worst. This
webinar reviews environmental justice and climate justice issues in North Carolina and
discusses the essential role social workers can play in advocating for environmental justice and
climate change mitigation.
