(RALEIGH, NC) – The National Association of Social Workers North Carolina Chapter (NASW-NC) has named Ashley Phykitt as the recipient of the 2023 NASW-NC Presidents’ Award for Master of Social Work (MSW) students for the 2022-2023 academic year. Ashley Phykitt is an outstanding graduate student in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at North Carolina State University (NCSU).
The NASW-NC Presidents’ Award recognizes Ms. Phykitt’s leadership within her department, as well as her commitment to expanding her knowledge and competence within the field of integrated behavioral health.
Throughout her time in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at NCSU, Ms. Phykitt has participated in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Behavioral Health Scholars Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) program, in which she attends additional trainings to prepare her for a career in behavioral health with at-risk children and adolescents in North Carolina. Ms. Phykitt interns at Advance Community Health (ACH) in Raleigh as her field placement for her program, where she works in the behavioral health pediatric department. In this position, she conducts therapy sessions and screenings for children and adolescents. Additionally, Ms. Phykitt is participating in a research project to evaluate the effectiveness of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) on children and adolescent patients with depression and anxiety using data from ACH’s clients.
Melody Washington, Ms. Phykitt’s field supervisor at ACH, states, “Ms. Phykitt has a number of strengths to offer as an upcoming social worker. Above all else, she genuinely cares about each client she sees. She is the epitome of my favorite quote, ‘To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.”
